Ashes scattering at sea · Barcelona
We accompany families scattering ashes at sea off the Garraf coast. A private outing aboard our own classic sailboat from Port Garraf, with the dignity and quiet this moment deserves.
Fixed price, all-inclusive: the whole sailboat for your family, the maritime permit, and up to 11 guests.
How it works
The outing lasts about an hour, though the time on board is set by you. No surprises, no rush — nothing to manage on the day itself except being there.

Step 01
I'll meet you at berth 1501 on the Muelle de Levante, a little before departure. You can park at the harbour car park, ten metres from the boat. If you arrive early, there's a bar at the harbour.
Step 02
You board at your own pace, no rush. I'll show you the boat, the seating, the deck, the bathroom, and give you a short safety briefing.
Step 03
We leave the harbour for the point assigned by the Barcelona Maritime Authority. The crossing time depends on sea conditions.
Step 04
I stop the boat and step back. This is the moment for the scattering, with no time limit. Complete silence is fine too. If anyone wants to say a few words, this is the moment.
Step 05
We head back without hurry. On arrival, I say goodbye. No one at the harbour looks, no one asks.
The ceremony
€420
One fixed price, everything included.
Always included
If you'd like to add something — flowers, music, photography — we arrange it on request and quote it separately, no price lists.
We also offer
If you've already scattered ashes with us and would like to return to that same spot on a meaningful date — an anniversary, a birthday — we arrange a short outing just to remember. No urn, no paperwork: simply going back to the sea.
How to get there
Port Garraf sits right on the Garraf coast, at the foot of the massif, between Castelldefels and Sitges. It's a small, quiet harbour, without the bustle of Barcelona's city ports: no one watches, no one asks. We welcome families from across the Garraf, Baix Llobregat and Alt Penedès areas, and greater Barcelona.

No offices or front desks to find: come down to the harbour, look for berth 1501, and we'll be waiting there.
Open in Google MapsFrom Barcelona, take the C-32 towards Tarragona and exit at Garraf: about 30 km, 25 to 35 minutes. After the toll, follow the signs to Port Garraf / Sitges. From Vilanova i la Geltrú, via the N-340 through Sitges: about 15 km.
The harbour car park is supervised and ten metres from the berth: you'll park almost right in front of the boat, no walking or carrying anything. It's €3/hour, paid at the meter in the Club Náutico building.
If you'd rather not pay for parking, there's metered street parking in the village (3 minutes' walk) and on the upper esplanade (5 minutes): free from November to April, paid from May to October.
Renfe's R2 Sud line stops at Garraf, less than 5 minutes' walk from the harbour. It's 35 minutes from Barcelona Sants and 10 minutes from Sitges.
Approximate times, no traffic. If you're coming from further away and need to adjust the departure time, we can easily arrange that.

The sailboat
Bela is a Finnsailer 34, built at the Fiskars shipyard in Finland: classic lines, a teak deck, a boat built to sail well and age with dignity. That character — calm, noble, unhurried — is exactly what this moment calls for. She isn't a boat picked for the occasion: she's the boat I sail every week.

Who's with you
I've spent more than twenty-seven years at sea, with thousands of miles sailed around the world — from the Atlantic to the South Pacific. That experience is what lets you relax on board: whoever's at the helm knows the trade and knows these waters.
I also run my own Escuela Náutica Altair sailing school in Barcelona, where I've spent years accompanying people at sea. That same close, unhurried manner is exactly what you'll find here: respect, calm, and nothing that feels like paperwork.
The scattering takes place in the zone authorised by the Barcelona Maritime Authority, aboard my own boat — never a rental brought in for the occasion.
Twenty-five years at the helm
A professional skipper, not hired by the hour for the occasion.
Zone authorised by the Maritime Authority
Scattering takes place in the area designated by the Barcelona Maritime Authority.
A close, respectful manner
Years spent accompanying people at sea. No rush, nothing that feels like a formality.
Frequently asked questions
The outing lasts about an hour: boarding, sailing to the point assigned by the Maritime Authority, the scattering ceremony, and the return.
The boat is certified for up to 11 guests, besides me as skipper. If you're a larger group, we look at options — two outings, two boats — depending on your situation.
From Port Garraf (Sitges, Barcelona), berth 1501 on the Muelle de Levante. A small, sheltered harbour on the Garraf coast, about 30 minutes by car from Barcelona.
If the forecast calls for strong wind, rough seas or rain, we reschedule at no cost. I never sail if conditions would put the ceremony's safety or dignity at risk.
Yes, it's legal: it's regulated, not banned (Royal Decree 218/2022). I need authorisation from the Maritime Authority, for which I file a responsible declaration a few days before the outing. I need the death certificate and a certificate that the urn is biodegradable.
The urn must be biodegradable (paper, salt, sand, plant materials). Metal, plastic, varnished wood or glass urns aren't allowed at sea.
Yes. The process with the Maritime Authority is the same: a responsible declaration and a biodegradable urn.
Just the urn with the ashes. I take care of everything else: paperwork and coordination. You're welcome to bring biodegradable petals, a bluetooth speaker for music, or food and drink if you'd like. It's worth bringing a light jacket even in summer — it's cooler at sea than on land.
At least 5 working days, to allow time for the paperwork with the Maritime Authority. In low season, it can sometimes be arranged within 48 hours if the documents arrive in time.
The ceremony is €420, a fixed, all-inclusive price: the whole sailboat for your family, the permit from the Maritime Authority, and insurance. If it can't go ahead because of the weather, I refund 100% or we reschedule, whichever you prefer.
